Situated in the Olympic Village, the PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn was built in 1959 as a home for the 1960 Olympic delegation. The boutique-style hotel was completely renovated in 1995 to create a special ambiance of comfort and style. With a touch of whimsy and a splash of theatrics, the look is fresh and modern yet stunning in its simplicity.

"Plump Jack" is Queen Elizabeth's name for the rotund Jack Falstaff of Shakespeare's Henry IV. San Francisco composer and philanthropist Gordon Getty also wrote an opera he called "PlumpJack". Today, Gavin Newsom and Bill Getty are business partners in the PlumpJack Management Group. Their properties also include the PlumpJack Winery in Napa Valley and the San Francisco PlumpJack Cafe, Balboa Cafe, and PlumpJack Wine Store.

The PlumpJack philosophy enjoining all the business ventures is captured in Newsom's self-described "core ideology" - a sense of being different, a purpose beyond profits. He ardently pursues failure, which he holds to be the launching pad for success, is deeply committed to social and global responsibility, delights in challenging the traditional methods, passionately believes that business can be fun, and demands an exceptional experience for each customer.
